Christmas Eve -

Sunrise-

Late afternoon visitor to the bird feeder -

Holiday Preparation - Horseradish

To get ready for tomorrow's feast with standing rib roast as the main attraction I needed to prepare some famous (?) Ledge Lane Horseradish, so I went to the garden and began the process - it took less than one hour - the first picture was taken at 1:43 P.M. the last one with the final product in the jar at 2:33 P.M.

First - find the plants in the garden-

Next, dig up some roots -

Cut off the unneeded parts.
Clean them

Peel:

Cut into pieces:

Grind with salt water in blender:

Put in jar:

Tomorrow we will mix it with mayonnaise to make horseradish sauce.

December 23 - Thirty seven Years!!

December 23 was our 37th wedding anniversary - I know of a couple people who check this blog now and then were there! Here are a couple of pictures from this year before we went out to eat:

Decorating

We've been putting up our Christmas decorations bit by bit. Today I did the village. Each year I try to add something new - not too much space left. This year I added the kids with the big snowball at the right side.

Red leaves - some hang on!

Here's the tree across the street - ablaze as it stands out in the shade!!

Though we've had a couple of frosts - many trees still have a lot of leaves. We still see many beautiful trees as we drive around. Our sunset maple is now bare but the shagbark is nice and the sun through the Japanese Maple was striking today.

Color Still Here!

The red maple is still amazing us - but its leaves are falling and it won't last much longer.

The Red Sunset Maple isn't the only tree vying for our attention this year - the Shagbark Maple adds some red, also:

Red Maple this year...

We had a cold spell a week or so ago and I think the color was affected but it is still a good contrast in the back. The last two days were beautiful Indian summer; today some rain. No real cold expected for a while.

Up North

Here's the sun trying to hide - didn't want to be seen in that "State Up North" I found it when we visited Petoskey last month. I have't done much with the photos from the trip - I'll try to get some posted before long.

New Pergola

This past week we upgraded our deck arrangement by replacing the gazebo, table and chairs.
