I was recently reminded of an old painting that came to us from Jane's family. It shows a cabin in Grace, Mississippi. Finally I was able to make out the signature and discerned that is was painted by a well known artist - H. Cyrus Farnum. He did most of his work in Rhode Island. If I would have realized that before our recent trip there we might have looked for some other examples of his work.

Hi, Love the Farnum painting! He was my gr gr Uncle. He had a friend that he visited in the south and did quite a few paintings of southern cabins and landscapes. If you ever sell it please let me know.
Thanks,
Jeff
Jeff, you didn't leave an email. I would like to know more about your relative.
Hi, Can I send you email? I didn't see any contact info. I don't want my email out there for anybody to see on a google search..
Also there is a wiki page for h cyrus. I would be happy to share what I know.

I have a large Paris scene done by Farnum. It came from my grandparents who were lifelong residents of RI.
My brother has a portrait of my grandfather( also done by
by Farnum) It was done when my grandfather was in politics in RI.
I am the current owner of the Hunt-Farnum farm in Glocester, RI. The farm was purchased by my grandparents (Garrity) in 1900. I have been researching the homestead (circa 1789) and have been looking into H. Cyrus Farnum. We took part in an open house featuring the "great barns of Glocester" I spoke with some Farnums who said that they had several of his paintings in their attic.
Anon: I hope those with paintings in the attic let others see them. I think such works shouldn't be relegated to an attic! You may contact me at RustyMailBoxes@gmail.com.
