Some Spring Pictures

Yesterday we had a new tree installed at the side of the house - the old one had died for some unknown reason.

We also put in some new shrubs and I transplanted some grasses.

This morning I woke up and realized I hadn't contacted Mrs. Cady in a while, so I called her today. I found out that on March 13 (Friday the 13th!) she and her husband were on their way out to eat to celebrate her 83rd birthday when someone ran a stop sign and they were involved in a very bad accident. Their car was totaled but they suffered no serious injuries but some pretty bad bruises. Here is my kindergarten class in front of Fair Avenue school in the spring of 1950.

This morning I thought I would share a little painting that we have had for a long time. It is small - approximately four and three-eighths by two and seven eighths inches. Deer

There were four deer close to the back yard this afternoon. They blended in so well with the background I almost didn't see them.

Not much new...

It's been more than a week since I last reported in - not much going on here on the home front. Here's a pic of Clarise who thought the clean clothes were a good place to be.

Warm temperatures today. Then this afternoon a storm rolled through followed by a patch of sun and a rainbow -

More winds are predicted through the night - we will see.

Heat wave!

The temperature reached 42.6F today. There was a lot of melting but the ground is still covered with snow. We had a problem with ice dams on the roof above the garage. I spent a lot of time getting ice out of the roof gutters. I think the problem is resolved - for now at least. Melting will continue tomorrow and that will help. Future ice and snow will make me wary of the gutters, though.

It stopped snowing about 2:00 P.M. so I dug out the driveway as best as I could. There is a half inch layer of ice over much of it - this will melt a bit when the sun gets to it.

Snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain, more snow!!

The above title sums it up! We're in the middle of a big winter storm. It's supposed to last throughout the day. Schools, offices, businesses, etc. are closed. We have no need to go out until Friday so we will hole up and keep warm and dry except when I finally get bundled up to dig out some areas.

Even the robin says, "Brrrrrr!" -

Spencer is home

Spencer had an operation on Tuesday - he came home in the evening. He's getting better slowly.

Today we took the ninety minute drive to Cambridge, Ohio, to see the light show at the Guernsey County Court House - really neat. Here's a three minute movie I took - the second half is more impressive.
